Unknown flying craft seen over Virginia

Report from MUFON: Date of event: April 27, 2011

“I left work and started driving home on the state highway. There were thunderstorms in the distance, about 5 miles away. I have to take several back roads to get to my house, and so I pulled onto one of those.

It was a few minutes past 9:00 PM. As I was driving at about 55 mph, I noticed a dark object with flashing lights on my left. At first I thought it was a plane, or maybe a helicopter, as I see them flying over fairly often, mostly during the day time.

But as I stared at it I realized it was unlike any craft I had ever seen. It had blue, red, and white flashing lights that flashed on a ring around the craft. It was lower to the ground than any plane would fly, and was coming at me at a perpendicular angle. I still thought it was some sort of plane until it turned, very sharply, to parallel the road.

As soon as I saw the back of the craft I knew it wasn't a plane. It looked more like some sort of space shuttle. There were three yellow circles on the back of the craft arranged in a triangular fashion, much like the thrusters on the back of a space shuttle.

The circles were not that bright, and I could still see the white and red lights flashing from the back of the craft. It looked like it had two large wings, but the exact shape was hard to tell because the only source of light (other than the craft) was a flash of lighting or two.

At this point I realized just how fast this thing was moving. In the span of less than a minute it was just a pinprick in the distance.”

Investigators say hundreds of ghostly voices speak out in this Gordonsville hotel

"Mark Higgins’ Mystery Machine is a white Chevy Trailblazer with a “Ghost Hunter” license plate holder, but we’re not blazing trails or hunting ghosts yet.

Instead, we’re stuck 10 miles from Pantops Mountain on Route 231, a two-lane road that leads to Gordonsville and to one of the most “active” sites Higgins has investigated: the Exchange Hotel, a former Civil War hospital.

The line of stopped cars extends beyond a bend in the road, so we can’t see the cause of the hold-up...

Shh! Historic Bedford home may be haunted

"BEDFORD, Va. – Little more than an hour from Wythe County’s Major Graham Mansion, the directors of a home called “Avenel” have a predicament when it comes to talk of haunts.

Stories have persisted for decades that Avenel – built in the 1830s – has been inhabited by a wispy “lady in white.”

Ghost hunters come to the home, and so do news reporters, anxious to see or hear something unusual...

True believer on trail of Sasquatch in Va., claims 14 sightings

"THORNBURG, Va. — Billy Willard says he’s on the verge of a major discovery that could change the way humans think about the natural world, not to mention their need for a creature-proof home security system.

Here in Spotsylvania County, in the forests around Lake Anna, Willard contends there have been 14 sightings in the past decade of that most fabled of cryptozoic beasts: Bigfoot.

Or Sasquatch, as the elusive, apelike brute is referred to in other circles — and on the side of Willard’s blue pickup. The decal on the truck reads “Sasquatch Watch of Virginia,’’ of which Willard is chief pooh-bah (when he’s not earning a living installing and removing underground home oil tanks)...

Bigfoot | KEEPING AN EYE OUT FOR SPOTSY SASQUATCH

"Hunting for the elusive Sasquatch is difficult enough, but rain makes it even harder.

Billy Willard, 41, the director of the Manassas-based Sasquatch Watch of Virginia, said the din of rain makes it impossible to hear anything else.

And the rain keeps animals--even Bigfoots--under shelter...

Mysterious, cylindrical UFO spotted over Richmond, Virginia

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: April 30, 2010
Location of event: Richmond, Virginia

"During my daily exercise walk, I spotted a mysterious cylindrical (cigar-shaped) UFO hovering low over a suburban section of Richmond, Virginia. I noticed the craft during beautiful weather and clear skies at approximately 6:30 PM, while walking east down Riverside Drive on the south bank of the James River.

I was casually scanning the scenery and wildlife along the river, gazing northeast toward the north bank of the river and greater Richmond. The cigar-shaped craft, perhaps the length of a football field, appeared to be a dull metallic fuselage with light and dark sections fore, aft, and amidships.

There was no writing on the craft or standard markings, no advertisements like you would expect on a blimp, and it did not appear to be a conventional blimp, derigible, or zeppelin of which I am familiar. I did not see any fins, stabilizers, rudders, or conventional propulsion systems. It was not a balloon, plane, or helicopter. I did not hear any noise coming from the craft.

There were no lights of any kind (at first), no FAA port/starboard (red & green) navigation (running) lights, no headlight and no tail light, even though most conventional aircraft would be required to have such lights turned on during dusk hours, especially while operating at extra-low altitude for safety reasons. The cylindrical UFO was hovering low, at perhaps 1,500-2,000 feet, over what I believe was an affluent section of Richmond. I used a tall bell tower (spire) at Richmond's Dogwood Dell Carrilon (Maymont Park) as a point of reference.

From my location during the sighting, the tower is a few miles downriver on the northside of the James River, and the cigar-shaped UFO was hovering perhaps .25-.5 mile inland from the river maybe 1-3 miles west of the Carrilon bell tower, perhaps over historic Agecroft Hall."

Cigar shaped UFO with attachment seen over Rustburg, Virginia

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: April 30, 2010
Location of event: Rustburg, Virginia

"I was at work making a delivery to a grocery store. After I parked my truck, I proceeded to walk around to the front of the grocery store to wait for them to open up, it was 06:47 AM. As I turned the corner of the building to my right, I noticed an object in my left corner-vision, above the tree line between 2 and 3 miles away.

This object appeared to be at least twice as high as the tree line, and moving slowly from the south to east-northeast. The sky was clear blue, no clouds at all, and the sun was up in the east. This object had no fins or wings visible of any type, and no engines visible. It was simply a straight cigar or cylinder shape with some object below it or attached to it.

It had no rotors or wings, and made no noise. It moved slowly and straight. This was absolutely baffling. I have been a fan of Ufology for many years, but I never expected to see something this odd and in the bright, clear sky. This object flew over the outskirts of Rustburg, Virginia, slightly to the south. In my military career since the late 80's with the Navy and Army, I have never seen anything like this. I have worked in Naval Intelligence 20 years ago, and studied all types of conventional and unconventional aircraft, I'm in the Army National Guard and have seen UAV aircraft in Iraq, this was different.

Thanks for listening,

Jim"

Silver sphere seen streaking across Virginia

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: March 17, 2010
Location of event: Virginia, USA

"I was standing alone at the bus stop at 8:45 AM, looking in a southeasterly direction when I spotted a silver sphere streak through the sky at an estimated distance of half a mile and several hundred feet off the ground. The object was observed for a brief 2-3 seconds at a 45 degree angle from the horizon and traveling in a clear blue sky.

It was the size of a dime held at arm's length and heading in the direction of Alexandria, VA, and the Potomac River. Its flight path from behind me would have had it traveling over the Pentagon.

It reflected the sun’s light, and traveled about the same speed that a falling star would be traveling. There was no sound and it simply vanished in flight, not just disappearing over the horizon.

I hadn’t planned on reporting this except that it seemed very similar to the silver-colored sphere described in case 22347 one hour later in Pennsylvania."

Birght light seen in Virginia

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: March 10, 2010
Location of event: Staunton, Virginia

"I first saw a very bright light (as bright as noon day sun), shortly after sundown - about 1850 hours, in the distance over the Blue Ridge west of Staunton, Virginia from my kitchen window. I got my binoculars, 10 power, and went outside. With the binoculars I saw four very bright lights close together moving slowly to the West - approximate distance 10 miles. As I watched the four lights, three of them appeared to spread out like a fireworks multicolored starburst.

Then, I noticed another object lower on the horizon a few miles to the north, and further away doing the same thing. These were not airplanes or helicopters, I have been around enough of both in the military to know the difference. The object was moving slowly toward the West probably not more than 10 miles per hour. Altitude estimate about 2,000 feet above the mountain tops for the first object, perhaps lower for the second object.

It was a very clear night with excellent visibility. I lost sight of the object as it moved slowly to the west over the horizon.
