Cylindrical UFO over Utah? Looks very much like sunlited cloud

Description from the original uploader:
"This UFO was spotted in the sky tonight at 7:19pm the sunset was at 7:10pm this is not the sun or a cloud 4 people witnessed it and could not identify what it was it looked like the top of the sun going behind the mountains but the mountains are far below as you can see and the sun was already down. At approximately 7:43 the object disappeared slowly in the same spot.

The sun or cloud would have moved since 7:19pm the object was seen even before that it took 3 to 4 minutes before that to get the video camera to film it once it was spotted.

It was the brightest thing in the sky easily seen."

The Aurora, Texas UFO incident of 1897 - Part 3 of 3

In 1897, six years before humans took to the sky by airplane, eyewitnesses from California to Michigan to Louisiana reported seeing mysterious cigar-shaped crafts sailing gently through the sky. But one of them stood out from the others. Something had crashed.

Part 3 - The quest for an explanation

As amazing this as this story might be, it could as easily all been an elaborate hoax. The town of Aurora had reasons to make this story up. Just months before the alleged crash, Aurora had gone through a series of tragic incidents. First, the economic source for the town (cotton farming) had been destroyed by a boll weevil infestation. Second, there was a fire on the west side of town claimed several buildings and lives.

Not long after the fire, an epidemic of spotted fever hit the town, nearly wiping those who had survived the fire. The fever also placed the town under quarantine, not making the situation any better. And finally, a planned railway never made it to Aurora, making Aurora even more isolate to the outside world. The town of Aurora was in danger of dying, and that’s why several researchers sees Haydon’s article as a last attempt to keep Aurora alive.

But if it weren’t a hoax, what was it then. Could an extraterrestrial actually crashed down on Earth in 1897. Of course there’s the possibility of that, but the explanation is probably more earthly than extraterrestrial. At the time of the crash, several patents for flying aircraft already existed, so crafts like the one who reportedly crashed could already have taken to the skies, but there is no proof of that. And the body that was said to be alien could very well have the badly burned body of the human pilot.

But there is one evidence left to investigate, the alien’s alleged grave at Aurora Cemetery. Over the there have several movements for exhuming the grave, but every permission have been denied by the Aurora Cemetery Association. They say they deny for the respect of others on the cemetery. But by making impossible to investigate the grave, it will be impossible to close this case. Just by a single look into the grave, we would be able to say that really as says in the news article or confirming that it all was just a hoax. Maybe one they will give away and open the grave, but if not we’ll maybe never know the real truth of what happened in Aurora 1897. The story lives on.

The Aurora, Texas UFO incident of 1897 - Part 2 of 3

In 1897, six years before humans took to the sky by airplane, eyewitnesses from California to Michigan to Louisiana reported seeing mysterious cigar-shaped crafts sailing gently through the sky. But one of them stood out from the others. Something had crashed.

Part 2 - MUFON investigates - uncovers physical evidence

This incident was soon forgotten and it became just a tall tale that spread from resident to resident. That was until May, 1973 when it was commented in UPI like this:

"Aurora, Tex. -- (UPI) -- A grave in a small north Texas cemetery contains the body of an 1897 astronaut who was 'not an inhabitant of this world,' according to the International UFO Bureau.

The group, which investigates unidentified flying objects, has already initiated legal proceedings to exhume the body and will go to court if necessary to open the grave, director Hayden Hewes said Wednesday."

"After checking the grave with metal detectors and gathering facts for three months, we are certain as we can be at this point [that] he was the pilot of a UFO which reportedly exploded atop a well on Judge J.S. Proctor's place, April 19, 1897," Hewes said." "He was not an inhabitant of this world.
"

As by over a night, the crash was big news again. And in article published some days, an interview with a living witness to the crash was. The 91-year old lady was fifteen at the time for the incident. She stated that her parents had been to the crash site, but that she wasn’t allowed to join for fear of what might be in the debris. She also recalled a burial of “a small man” at Aurora Cemetery.

MUFON INVESTIGATES – UNCOVERS PHYSICAL EVIDENCE
Not only became the press interested in this story. Later that year, Bill Case, an aviation writer Texas state director of MUFON, decided to investigate the alleged crash. MUFON was able to uncover a new eyewitness to the crash. Charlie Stephens, who was 10 in 1897, told MUFON how he saw airship heading north toward Aurora. He continued to tell that his father went to the town the next and saw the wreckage from the crash.

Eyewitnesses aside, were there any actual physical evidence from the crash? According to MUFON, there was. Under the investigation, MUFON was able to uncover a piece of metal that was said to be from the wreckage. The metallic piece was analyzed and it was revealed that it was composed 95 percent aluminum and 5 percent iron. This alloy is very uncommon in nature and after further analysis they were able to conclude that it had been air-cooled on the ground. This led to the assertion raised in MUFON's report that, given the presumption that it originated in 1897, the sample could not be of terrestrial nature, but they also stated that it just could have been an object put there at any time during the last century.

MUFON continued their investigation at the Aurora Cemetery and found a grave maker that appeared to show a flying saucer. Near the grave maker, detectable readings from a metal-detector were made. MUFON asked the cemetery association for permission to exhume the grave, but they declined.

After MUFON’s investigation, the grave marker mysteriously disappears and a three-inch pipe was placed into the ground. MUFON’s metal detector could no longer pick up any readings from the grave, thus it was presumed that the metal was removed from the grave.

Cigar-shaped UFO seen over Pennsylvania

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: June 12, 2010
Location of event: Pennsylvania, USA

"I was lying on the couch watching the Weather Channel as we were having some storms in the area. I had been out playing hockey and I wanted to go back out. It looked as if the storm had passed on the radar, so I started to head back out.

First, I glanced out the window when lightning caught my eye. I stood there and watched for a minute before I saw a black, cigar-shaped object hurtling through the sky. It was above the treeline, sliding at a 45 degree angle.

At first, I dismissed the object as a bird, but there was a hawk flyng next to it. The hawk was shifting, but the UFO kept at a steady angle. The event lasted about 5 seconds. As soon as the sighting had occurred, I came up to my computer and wrote this report.

So you can trust that the whole scene is fresh in my head and I didn't make up anything. Remember to watch the skies.

P.S. I am sorry there is no attached media. I know that lessens your belief in my testimony, but I swear, it was there!"

The Aurora, Texas UFO incident of 1897 - Part 1 of 3

In 1897, six years before humans took to the sky by airplane, eyewitnesses from California to Michigan to Louisiana reported seeing mysterious cigar-shaped crafts sailing gently through the sky. But one of them stood out from the others. Something had crashed.

Part 1 - "A windmill demolishes it"

Early on the morning of April 17, 1897 a craft was seen over the little Texas town of Aurora. The craft came from the south and seemed to have mechanical problems. The craft lost altitude and crashed into a windmill on Judge J.S. Proctor property about 06:00 am. local time.

The craft destroyed upon impact and debris was scattered around the windmill. Witnesses that seen the craft coming rushed to the scene to see the still smoldering wreckage. As they searched through the debris, a small dead body was found, said to be the pilot of the craft.

NOT OF THIS WORLD
T.J. Weems, an army officer from nearby Forth Worth, said that it was not of this world and said it had to come from Mars. The body was given a proper Christian burial on April 18, the day after.

Almost all of the above information comes from an article published in the April 19 edition of Dallas Morning Star, who was written by one S.E. Hayden, a resident of Aurora. It states as follow:

"About 6 o'clock this morning the early risers of Aurora were astonished at the sudden appearance of the airship which has been sailing throughout the country. It sailed directly over the public square, and when it reached the north part of town collided with the tower of Judge Proctor's windmill and went to pieces with a terrific explosion, scattering debris over several acres of ground, wrecking the windmill and water tank and destroying the judge's flower garden. The pilot of the ship is supposed to have been the only one aboard, and while his remains are badly disfigured, enough of the original has been picked up to show that he was not an inhabitant of this world.

T.J. Weems, the U.S. Signal Service Officer at this place and an authority on astronomy, gave it as his opinion that (the pilot) was a native from the planet of Mars.

Papers found on his person (evidently the records of his travels) are written in some unknown hieroglyphics and cannot be deciphered. The ship was too badly wrecked to form conclusions as to its construction or motive power. The town is full of people today who are viewing the wreck and gathering specimens of strange metal from the debris. The pilot's funeral will take place tomorrow.

Cigar shaped UFO with attachment seen over Rustburg, Virginia

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: April 30, 2010
Location of event: Rustburg, Virginia

"I was at work making a delivery to a grocery store. After I parked my truck, I proceeded to walk around to the front of the grocery store to wait for them to open up, it was 06:47 AM. As I turned the corner of the building to my right, I noticed an object in my left corner-vision, above the tree line between 2 and 3 miles away.

This object appeared to be at least twice as high as the tree line, and moving slowly from the south to east-northeast. The sky was clear blue, no clouds at all, and the sun was up in the east. This object had no fins or wings visible of any type, and no engines visible. It was simply a straight cigar or cylinder shape with some object below it or attached to it.

It had no rotors or wings, and made no noise. It moved slowly and straight. This was absolutely baffling. I have been a fan of Ufology for many years, but I never expected to see something this odd and in the bright, clear sky. This object flew over the outskirts of Rustburg, Virginia, slightly to the south. In my military career since the late 80's with the Navy and Army, I have never seen anything like this. I have worked in Naval Intelligence 20 years ago, and studied all types of conventional and unconventional aircraft, I'm in the Army National Guard and have seen UAV aircraft in Iraq, this was different.

Thanks for listening,

Jim"

Arizona woman mesmerized by cigar shaped UFO

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: April 24, 2010
Location of event: Arizona, USA

"I was at a park Saturday morning with about twenty other people. We were waiting to pick up fruits and vegetables from an awesome co-op that delivers at the park. While standing in line I saw something glint in the sky as I looked north, similar to when the sun glints off the bumper of a car.

I looked up and watched it. The shiny glint started growing as it moved very slowly toward the west. I knew it wasn't an airplane because it was all silver and had no wings. When it got directly in front of me it was at least half again the size of a jumbo jet and cigar shaped (from my point of view).

It stayed in that spot for about 10 seconds, then disappeared. My view was unencumbered by trees, buildings or clouds. The weirdest thing was that while I'm watching this craft move slowly across the sky, the lady next to me kept talking – but I couldn't hear the words; I couldn't move to indicate she should look up and I couldn't speak, I was frozen in place – only my mind was working. My husband was standing next to me as well. When the craft disappeared, I was able to talk again and I asked, "Where did it go?"

There was a plane right there going slowly (not able/willing to say it was a UFO). My husband and the woman indicated a black, propeller driven plane that was flying slowly heading south. I told them that wasn't it, but the conversation moved on as if nothing had happened. It was about 9:20 in the morning and I was the only one that saw it."

Cigar shaped UFO moves over California building

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: April 6, 2010
Location of event: California, USA

"We were sitting in the hot tub by our apartment in the city, when we heard what sounded like the drone of engines. We looked up and saw a cigar-shaped object just barely clearing the top of the buildings. The object was about 100 feet in length and had steady red lights on the bottom of it.

The lights were rectangular in shape, and there were four along the bottom length of the object. It moved rather slowly across the sky from East to West, it seems to take a long time for it to fly past us.

It is very rare when a plane flies over our 15 story apartment building, and then it's typically only a small plane or helicopter. We can see to the West of us aircraft approaching the Sacramento airport, however, they typically are traveling north. The object that we saw would have flown right into the flight pattern of approaching planes at the airport.

After the object got a couple of miles past us, we could no longer see it, as the buildings and trees blocked our sight."

Cigar shaped object seen over Delaware

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: March 9, 2010
Location of event: Delaware, USA

"I was driving 3/4 miles north of the "Old George's" Bridge on RT. 13. I looked up and saw a cigar-shaped object with 3 lights. As I got closer to the object, which was slowly moving southwest, I was able to make out windows in the object. There was no audible noise.

My friend called my cell phone just as I saw the object, I told him what was going on and he told me to double back. I did and the slow moving object was gone: However, I saw what appeared to be planes or helicopters in the distance. I continued on my original course, and again the same or duplicate object appeared in the same fashion.

This time I drove directly under it. No noise, moving at relativity low speed 50 mph, approximately, 200 - 500 feet in the air, approximately 70-90 feet long. It was gray in color, and cigar-shaped. I'm not sure what I saw, my friend was on the phone the whole time, I don't have a camera so I couldn't capture it.

Dover AFB is located roughly 30 miles south of my position. Could these have been planes on a mission? I've never seen planes move so slowly, without noise. It definitely freaked me out. I'm no saying it was alien, but it was an object I can't easily identify. Hopefully someone can find out.

This must have been seen by others, since RT. 1 (a busy highway) runs directly parallel with my position.

Cigar shaped UFO - long as football field over Michigan

Report from MUFON:

Date reported: February 25, 2010
Date of event: February 16, 2010
Location of event: Okemos, Michigan

"On February 16, 2010, at or about 3:08 PM, I was driving south on N. Meridian Rd, north of Grand Rives Ave, near Okemos, MI. Weather was very cloudy, solid, dark storm type clouds, they did not appear to be moving. I was not looking at the sky, but noticed large movement through the tops of approaching trees.

I realized immediately what I was seeing was not normal and slowed the car to a crawl, all most stop, as I am not one to look away from the road in front of me while driving. I saw a large oblong shape (cigar shape) at least the length of a football field or even longer. The height I can only guess was maybe 80 to 100 foot tall. It was maybe 1000 foot off the ground. I really do not know, but did measure with my hand. It was darker then the clouds behind it.

It was a matted, flat charcoal black with very defined edges, it seemed like it was outlined in a darker black at the edges. If it were not for the darker edges, it almost would have been camouflaged to the clouds behind it, but the edges made the shape very defined and stand right out. The shape was moving southeast steadily, but much slower than an airplane. My brain tried to say that it was a HUGE black airplane, however there were no wings. If it were a plane I could see it clear enough.

I should have seen huge wings, but it was way, way, too big to be a plane, and moving too slow to be a plane. I watched it for about 10 seconds then it disappeared. About 6 seconds after that, it reappeared for about 15 seconds again, still moving in the same direction. No lights, it just disappeared again. I thought maybe I should stop and just watch for a few minutes, then decided to go slow and keep glancing for it in the direction it was headed, and I could get past the trees, and maybe see it totally unobstructed from trees.

Although, in no way did the trees prevent or alter what I was seeing, I just wanted complete view without any trees. I continued south on Meridian Rd seeing nothing. I crossed Grand Rive Ave, continued on, when I came to the I-96 overpass. About 5 minutes after seeing the object I decided to stop the car on top of the overpass and just look, as long as no cars were on the road. I figured I would just look in the direction the craft was heading when I saw it, taking advantage of the height of the overpass and wide-open space and maybe see it again.

I was not stopped but maybe 30 seconds and I saw a lightning-like, almost blinding pulse-type intensity flash of blue, white clear light in the sky at about the same height as the object was flying. The flash was not lighnting. It held a large oblong shape for the entire time it was visible, about 6 seconds. I would say the shape was the size of a large two-story house.

It was directly over the highway towards Williamston. It seemed to have depth somehow in the center. I have to feel this was related, as that area would have been about where the object would have been if it continued on the same path of flight and speed it was traveling just minutes earlier. I cannot think of anything else in the area that it could have been. It was not a normal thing to see, and it was above the highway, which goes on for miles in the same direction at the same elevation, it would not have been a reflection from traffic in the distance, it was too high. It reminded me of a huge doorway, but it was like lightning. There were cars approaching so I moved on.
"
