The Phoenix Lights

When involving UFOs and other paranormal fields, cases with many witnesses are rare and the sightings are hard to confirm. A photograph or two to is lending more credibility to witness, but it is often hard authenticate it. But there cases where multiple photographs and videos have been made, taken by many witnesses. One of the best known cases of this is the case of the so-called Phoenix Lights on March 13, 1997.

Image top-left: A drawing of the object appeared in USA Today.

SEEN FROM NEVADA TO ARIZONA
Many people in the Phoenix area had gathered outside to try to catch a glimpse of the Hale-Bopp comet who was going to be visible, and many also cameras to capture this celestial event. But the Hale-Bopp wouldn’t be the night’s main event. But earlier on the day, sightings of an unknown V-shaped craft had already come in from Henderson, Nevada, Prescott and Prescott Valley and Dewey, about 75 miles north of the city it was headed for, Phoenix. Witnesses in these areas had reported a very large V-shaped craft with lights underneath.

This V-shaped craft finally reached Phoenix and was observed by many people, the city council actually received over 700 reports, as is slowly moved over Phoenix. This time, the craft were reported to be a mile wide V or boomerang shaped craft. But the sightings over Phoenix wouldn’t end with giant solid craft, and this time photographic evidence would be caught. Soon after the craft had passed over the city, a series of lights appeared, one by one, and would later also extinguishes one by one. This was captured on tape and is often showed in UFO documentaries.

FLARES AN UNLIKLEY EXPLNATION
In event of this magnitude, it was just a figure of time before the military would become involved in this incident. The military’s standpoint have been since that day that the first incident involving the giant craft was only fighter jets in a V-shaped formation and that the secondary incident were nothing more than series of flares dropped by a A-10 "Warthog". But when comparing what witnesses observed to how flares, several flaws can be found. First, it was reported that lights moved in unison, something flares doesn’t do. Neither do they fall to ground and fly back up into the air. And secondary, there were reports of hovering lights hours before the military launched the flares.

The Phoenix case is unique among other UFO cases, the share amount of witnesses and photographic evidence is astonishing compared to other incidents. But still, no good explanation has been given on what was seen by thousands of witnesses in Phoenix on March 13, 1997. The case remains unexplained.

One of the most famous videos from that day:

Today it is 13 years since the Phoenix Lights occurred and we celebrate it with a documentary about this event.

But stay tuned, an article about this event will published later today.

Small UFO sighted over Arizona

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: March 1, 2010
Location of event: Arizona, USA

"I had turned off all the lights in my apartment and was going to bed. A feeling of slight fear arose. I then lay down in bed just before remembering my sunroof of my car was open. I get up and get dressed and walk outside. An awning covered my view of the object until I came around the corner, to go down the stairs.

As soon as the awning revealed the object in the sky, I saw it move downward and then vanish. At this point the fear I had been feeling vanished as if everything was perfect. After I closed the sunroof, I remained outside watching the sky for a few minutes. I didn't see anything else unusual.

The object seemed to be within a 1/4 mile of me, and no higher up than maybe 60 feet, falling to maybe 45 feet before disappearing. From the distance I perceived, the object seemed to be approximately 2 feet in diameter. It made no noise. I am sure what I saw was not a shooting star, lightning bug, or anything I can explain.

I’m planning to camp out on my porch for a little while each night with my camera. I’m hoping Ill spot it again.

Blue lighted object seen near Lakeland Florida airport

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: March 6, 2010
Location of event: Lakeland, Florida

"I saw something on March 6, when I was driving by Lakeland Florida Airport. From a distance I thought it was just several planes flying in a close formation, but that is explainable because they may have been landing. When I got closer I saw that there were seven small, blue blinking lights like you would see on the bottom of airplanes. It was these flashing lights that lead me to believe they were planes at first.

As I got even closer I saw that they were completely still. Totally frozen. Hovering motionless. It couldn't be planes. They can't hover. The lights were pretty close together. They formed kind of a long triangle? Not the usual triangle that people see. The people in my car said maybe they are. Why would seven soundless helicopters sit there hovering in the dark without their search lights on?

Me and everybody in the car came to the conclusion that it was a UFO. I don't know that it was aliens, but it was weird. Other cars on the highway were looking up at it too, so we weren't drunk or hallucinating. The lights weren't randomly scattered.

They were in a geometric formation, which lead me to believe it was one craft. We were on the highway so we didn't stop, but as we kept driving we saw two or three more of these lights higher up and not close to the craft. They were the same exact blue blinking lights that blinked on and off about once every second. I would have just thought they were stars if I hadn't just seen the same thing closer up in a formation.

Also, in the past around a year ago, I saw what looked like a rod. I was in Miami and it was during the day. The rod was really far away and the way that the sun reflected on it made it not possible to be a cloud. As I kept looking at it, I thought that it probably wasn't a plane because it was going really slow, but I wasn't sure because again, it was far away.

All of a sudden it shot off and disappeared. One time I was in a car in Orlando and I saw a white ball floating in the distance. But since the car was in motion, the tree line got in front of it for about 6 second.s When I could see the place it was again it was gone.

The last two sightings I didn't think much of, but I thought I would let you know since I was making a report anyway. The first one though was really weird and I'm positive it was not explainable by known aircraft.

UFO paces motorist on Arizona highway

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: March 3, 2010
Location of event: Arizona, USA

"While driving from my house heading west I noticed what at first appeared to be a satellite in the night skies. But when I saw it was moving up and down in a split second, and its orange/red color I changed my mind. After that I came to a stop sign and change my direction to the North and the object also accelerated to the North with great speed.

By then I was driving in the middle of the road because I could not belief my eyes. Then, I came to a street light and changed my direction to the East and guess what? The object changed direction to the East, by that time I was a little nervous.

But still I was thinking there’s another explanation for what I was seeing. All my windows were down, so there was no reflection of any lights. Again I stopped at a street light and focused my vision on a light pole to confirm that the object was moving, and sure enough it was.

It almost seemed to me that it had the same heading and speed as my car - stopping and going like my car was. Scary stuff! Finally, I changed directions to the north, and of course the object did the same, by that time it seemed to be almost on top of central Tucson and finally it disappeared.

It was like the object dimmed its light.

Sphere shaped object moves at great speed over Oklahoma

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: March 2, 2010
Location of event: Oklahoma, USA

"I was taking my dogs out at approximately 8:00 PM CST. I was standing on the south side (uncovered) porch of my house. I always look up at the sky every night and do a little stargazing. I was outside for a few minutes before I looked up at the west /outhwest sky. At 8:05 PM CST, I noticed what appeared to be a very bright "yellowish" star that I have never noticed before, but it appeared to be moving very slowly north.

There was a light breeze that was making the tree limbs move a little, so I held up my right index finger as a reference to see if it was an optical illusion. The object actually was moving very slowly to the north. I watched this object for about one minute before the acceleration.

There were no blinking lights that would identify this as an airplane. I actually counted three airplanes in the sky after this happened. It was just an extremely bright yellowish sphere-shaped object that was moving slowly to the north. All of a sudden, the object accelerated "extremely fast" and traveled north for about 1 to 1.5 seconds. I cannot even estimate how far this object may have traveled at this speed. But from the point it accelerated to the point it stopped (I held my tape measure up to the sky starting from the tree that was in the horizon when it started, to the tree in the horizon where it stopped), it was three feet and two inches on my tape measure.

The object then decelerated "extremely fast," stopped, and disappeared. But I have never seen anything like this in my life and my jaw was left hanging open. This was an amazing sight to behold, whether it was a government craft or a craft of extraterrestrial origin. But Unfortunately I did not have my videocamera with me to record this. After witnessing what I did tonight I can assure you whenever I go out from now on I will have my video camera.

Helicopter escorts triangle UFO near March Air Force Base

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: March 4, 2010
Location of event: near Riverside, Texas

"On this particular night, I was parking my car after returning home from a friend's house. I generally look up at the night sky anyway, but on this particular night I heard a helicopter approaching from my right. Thinking nothing much of it, I get out of the car and pan my head over in the direction of the helicopter. When I did this, I saw a very large object slowly approach overhead and it looked to me like it was being escorted by a helicopter.

The helicopter was flying directly adjacent to this very large triangular object. I'd say it was about 2-3 football fields in diameter. I saw the 3 bright lights making out the triangular shape, and noticed a very slow, pulsing red light in the bottom of the object. Stunned at what I was seeing, I froze to look at the object in the middle of the street. It was about 6-700 feet above me, flying fairly low and extremely slow for an aircraft that large.

The curious thing about it was that it made absolutely no noise. All I heard the whole time was the sound of the helicopter and nothing else. When the object went straight over my head, I felt a very eerie feeling - like I was being watched at that very moment. After it went overhead and beyond the horizon, it looked like it was heading toward (the direction) of March Air Force Base into the San Timoteo Canyon.

The total event only lasted a few minutes, and I thought it was very interesting that it looked like the helicopter was escorting it.

Motorist in Texas sees bright object that dissapears

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: March 2, 2010
Location of event: Texas, USA

"After dropping my son off at school, I was driving home on the access road of 410 heading east when a bright object in the sky caught my attention. The object I thought might be a star, but I questioned how could it be so bright with the 7:30 sun shining? I was captivated and stunned.

I stared to at it to try and figure if this object had its own light source, or if the sun was reflecting from it. The object did not seem to move as I was looking at it. It may have had motion, but would have been difficult for me to see since it was so high up and I was driving. Had I been still, I may or may not have seen it in motion. As I was looking into the sky, I had nearly forgotten that the road (I'm all too familiar with), merges into one lane. From my peripheral vision, I notice the car in the next lane and I nearly collide.

I swerve to avoid hitting it, and the driver slows down to let me get ahead. I readjust my vehicle on the road and look back to scan the sky.

It's been about 5 seconds since I took my eyes away from the object and it's gone. I figure since I'm in motion, perhaps I maybe mistook the location of the object in sky. I quickly turned into a neighborhood just off of the access road and drove back west, then drove back onto the access road in an effort to study the sky from the position I had been in just one minute prior.

I still saw nothing. I'm baffled. By the way, not one cloud in the sky. I tried to come up with an explanation but can't. I've never seen a plane move in a way that it could be out of sight in 5 seconds, and a star that bright would need more time to not be visible in the sky. I really don't know what to make of it.

Diamond shaped UFO seen near airport in West Virginia

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: March 3, 2010
Location of event: Dellslow, West Virginia

"I was driving through Dellslow, West Virginia, outside of Sabraton-Morgantown when I noticed "two" white lights on the mountain top to my right. I pulled the vehicle off to the side of the road and watched the craft glide silently from the right side of the road from that mountain top to the left side of the road to the other mountain top.

The craft was gliding right above the tree line and when the craft was crossing the road I saw "four" white lights in a diamond shape and a solid outline of a solid, silver craft with bright white non-flashing lights at each tip, and a bright red light toward the rear of the craft. There were absolutely no green lights on the craft whatsoever.

What makes me a little suspicious is the direction the craft was flying was in the direct line of the local airport runway. I used to live right beside that runway in apartment buildings called West Run Apartments. Those apartments are at the base of the approach into the runway, because the planes would always fly into the runway 100 yards directly over my building.

The sighting of this craft was at the opposite end of the runway according to Map Quest, and was heading in the direction of the departure end of the runway. I am not familiar with FAA regulations, but I am sure there are regulations that prohibit craft from flying in the direction of planes departing the runway.

Unlike most encounters others may have had, my vehicle did not malfunction nor have any electrical shortages. It stayed on, nothing shorted out, and the car did not stall.

The man who started it all – Kenneth Arnold

Kenneth Arnold was just like any average man. Born in March of 1915 in Sebeka, Minnesota, cleared school and in 1940 he started a job that one day would make him famous. His job included flying around the Pacific Northwest and selling fire suppression systems. Arnold was regarded as a skilled and experienced pilot, with over 9,000 total flying hours.

On June 24, 1947, Kenneth was on a business trip from Chehalis, Washington to Yakima, Washington. Before getting into the plane, he learned about a $5,000 reward for the discovery of a U.S. Marine Corps C-46 transport airplane that had crashed near Mount Rainer. In the air, he scanned the mountainsides below, but wasn’t able to see any traces of the downed airplane.

“LIKE SAUCERS SKIPPING ACROSS THE WATER”
Suddenly something begun to flash through the windshield of his airplane. Soon, he was able to see were the flashes originated from. Some distance in front of him, nine silvery and shiny crescent shaped objects flew close to Mount Rainer. Kenneth was stunned by what he and he had never seen anything like this during his flight career. He estimated that the objects altitude was somewhere between 9,500 and 10,000 feet. By using his clock, he was able to estimate the speed to around 1,200 mph, an unbelievable high at that time.

After having landed in Washington, he told his story to a reporter that the objects moved "like a saucer would if you skipped it across the water." Although this wasn’t the actual shape of the objects, more how they moved, Bill Bequette's report on the AP news wire used the term "flying saucer" to describe the objects' shape, and the phrase “flying saucer was coined”. The military begun to show interest for his sigthing, after have tried to avoid it. He was interviewed about his sighting and the results would earn a place in Project Blue Book.

After Arnold’s sighting, USA went through a UFO frenzy and over 800 reports of UFO were to be made by the of July, 1947. Although there had already been several cases before Arnold’s, this was the one that started the modern UFO era, and will always earn its place in the history books.

UFO sightings on the rise in Tennessee

Bright white lights and strange, triangular shaped objects, Tennesseans are reporting some unusual things overhead. Don't expect that to stop anytime soon, a local group that investigates UFO close encounters says sightings are on the rise.

For decades millions of people have reported seeing UFO's. A recent poll shows one in 12 Americans have seen a mysterious object in the sky, and that a third of adults believe it's likely aliens have visited earth. While some say the increase in volume of reports in Tennessee are enough to make any investigator sit up and take notice, others say it's all in their heads...

Two witnesses spot unidentified objects over Pennsylvania

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: February 6, 2010
Location of event: Pennsylvania, USA

"I was shoveling my deck with a friend after the big Mid-Atlantic snow storm on February 6th. While shoveling, I happened to look up and saw 2 bright lights, approximately one finger width apart. My initial thought was, “Those planes are close or going to hit each other.”

A few seconds after I saw the lights, I quickly asked my friend to check the objects out. At this point we are both observing the two lights. I love astronomy and know star / planet positions very well- the 2 lights were in the northeast from my position, and planets would never be in this part of the sky. The details: the lights were the magnitude of Venus, very bright, a steady light (like a planet looks, no twinkles like a star).

In fact, it looked like 2 Venuses in the northeast sky at 8 PM Eastern Time USA. I held my hand up to see if the lights were moving; I thought maybe they were flares. There was no movement. I was in the military and know how flares move. The lights were 45 degrees from each other; the one right was higher, left lower.

My friend and I kept observing, asking “what the heck is that?” for about 2 minutes. Then the light on the bottom left winked out slowly, and 2 seconds later, the one on the right winked out. There was no movement across the sky; it looked like they were moving away from our viewing position, or disappearing. There were no more sightings after that.

More info- I live in an area where you see the commercial planes flying west out of Philadelphia. While we were observing the 2 objects, they disappeared while a plane flying out of Philadelphia came between us and our viewing position of the objects. Using the plane as an altitude reference, the lights were higher.

Report of strange flying objects over Florida

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: February 28, 2010
Location of event: Florida, USA

"Last night as my wife and I were standing on the back stairs smoking, we both witnessed a glowing object come from left to right, high in the sky over our house. The object was very bright and very abruptly stopped, and shot almost completely straight up out of sight.

Within a few seconds of its disappearance, we both witnessed a helicopter with a search light in the area of about where we saw it disappear. After about 20 minutes, the helicopter left. Now also over the past month, both my wife and I together and alone, have witnessed several bright, orange balls of light in the horizon at the front of our home that all suddenly disappear.

One we watched for approximately 30 minutes and it passed over relatively close to our position. It was round, large, and had several multi-colored lights on it. I live near a private airstrip, a municipal airport, and 2 military installations. Aircraft passing over our home is nothing new to us and we have learned to distinguish between stars, airplanes, helicopters, and what not.

None of these things we have seen recently comes close to resembling any of the normal aircraft we come across out here.

Two unidentified objects captured by IR camera

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: March 4, 2008
Location of event: ?

"To start with I build & install DVR Surveillance systems, and this was caught on one of my very high end Bosch true IR Camera. I was on the phone with a customer giving him a live view of the cameras showing how they worked. This camera is on a pan/tilt 360 mount, so I was moving the camera all over to show him how it worked.

We started to talk again, and I had left the camera aiming up towards the southern sky. Then he and I both saw this object fly through the shot, and I told him it was probability a bird. So I took the chance to show him the on-line replay. When looking back, I knew at once it was some sort of UFO, but not just one... in playback I saw there was two and very clearly. I also analyze video for customers and police, so I'm very good at it.

I worked on it for hours and they appear to be two triangle crafts moving very fast from west to east. What the real clincher for me was is that the top craft went in and out of the clouds, proving they were not an illusion or something on the lens. It happened so fast there was really no feeling at the time, but when I played it back, I just about had a heart attack because I knew what it was at once without a doubt.

I left the camera aimed at that same place for about a week, but they never flew through again.

Texas truck driver reports large, strange lights

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: February 24, 2010
Location of event: Between Cisco, Texas and Rising Star, Texas

"I was driving a hazardous material transport truck between Cisco and Rising Star, TX, southbound on Highway 183. I noticed an extremely bright series of 3 lights in the sky. The lights weren't moving or were moving very slowly. I passed a car that had partly pulled over to view the sight and thought about pulling over myself.

The shoulder was too narrow, so I proceeded in a southerly direction toward the lights high in the southern sky. Then an additional 6 lights came on, and the lights covered at least 1/4 mile of the sky. I turned my spotlight on and shined it in the direction of the lights. The lights went out after a few minutes, and the sky was dark with no signs of any aircraft or aircraft lights.

I could see planes in the far distance, but nothing in the immediate area. Then the original first 3 lights reappeared for a few more minutes and went back out again. I was closer this time but still could see no signs of aircraft of any sort. The lights were very bright and impossible to not notice. There were 2 cars behind my truck, and they were sure to have seen the sight as well as the folks that had pulled over.

I studied the sky carefully. I have worked at night a lot in my life. I have seen the space shuttle re-enter the atmosphere, space junk fall, and catch fire, comets, meteors of all sorts, apache helicopters with lights underneath, and passenger jets with landing lights on. These lights were quite unique in comparison to anything I've ever seen. The light they admitted was white and bright with no colors at all. I would love to get a look at the radar at 8:02 pm. It was several small crafts or one very large one.

Multiple objects unknown maneuvering over Kansas

Report from MUFON:

Date of event: February 16, 2010
Location of event: Great Bend, Kansas

"I noticed these lights when I stepped out to my car to grab a bag of clothes to bring in. I glanced to the north to what I thought were a few airplanes flying near each other, I looked again to notice that these lights were far too unusual to be typical aircraft. I ran inside to fetch my video camera and my father. What I saw was approximately 4 to 15 objects at any given time. They would group and scatter frequently, moving in very erratic paths. They changed their direction effortlessly within a full 360 degree spectrum.

Their lights were pure white, and pulsed without a distinguishable pattern. On several occasions many of them would disappear from sight only to reappear again in completely different spots. About 10 minutes after my dad and I began watching them, two jets came along and seemed to be attempting to get near the objects.

The jets were easily recognizable compared to the objects, they moved in very linear paths, had the common red and blue aircraft lights, and turned in stretched arcs. Every time a jet came near one, the object would "bounce" out of its way at a sharp 90 degree incline, then would quickly change directions again. I was watching this from 18th and Van Buren looking straight north, starting around 8:30 PM. We continued to watch for 15 minutes or so from this location until they all began to head further north, out of our viewing range, so we hoped in my car and headed out on McKinley, just north of Twin Lake,s and continued to watch them dart back and forth across the sky until they eventually sped off to the southeast, moving far too fast to keep an eye on them by car.

I managed to capture a little bit on video, though most of the time they were moving too fast and changing direction too frequently for my camera to stay focused enough to see them. The video does capture the unusual sequence of lights blinking on and off, and reappearing elsewhere.

I cannot say that what we saw was a group of UFOs, or a strange government test, for that I am unsure, but these do defy a logical explanation on my behalf, and I feel deserve some sort of investigation. I will release the video after email contact when I feel comfortable with whom contacts me. I do not wish to come off as arrogant, I just prefer not to open a can of worms.

I am typically skeptical as far as unusual sightings go, but this left me unsure as what to think. Thank you for your time.
